Make Summer 2011 the Best Summer Ever for Your Child!

Wild, Wild West

School-age:

Welcome to the unit Wild, Wild West. During this unit, children will learn about the Old West during the 1800s, when pioneers headed west through uncharted territories, encountering countless adventures and experiences along the way. Children will enjoy learning about this amazing time in history, when fortunes were made and lost, and legends were created. Activities include creating salt-dough maps of trails west, singing traditional western songs, square dancing, making butter, and panning for gold. Tell children to hold on to their cowboy hats, because the wild ride is about to begin!

Pre-school/Pre-K

In this unit, children will learn about the Old West through fun, hands-on activities such as preparing trail mix and practicing lassoing. During the week children will recreate the western terrain using salt dough, and explore some of the recreational activities of the early settlers such as creating shadow puppets and singing campfire songs. Children will also have opportunities for using their imaginations while pretending to milk cows and pan for gold.
